The Association for the Protection of Animals "Feniks" says that Belgrade has not yet banned the rescue of abandoned animals and providing them with basic living conditions - food and water.

- In Belgrade, it is not forbidden to feed a stray dog or cat. That can not be allowed, because firstly, it is inhumane and unconstitutional. Also, if the ban comes into force, it would not be in accordance with the law on welfare - explains Milica Rankovic, president of the Association for the Protection of Animals "Feniks".

On the other hand, the Association for the Protection of Animals "Vojvodina" says that in Novi Sad there is no regulation which is still in force and which imposes the punishment upon anyone who feeds strays on the street!

- There is no power in force forbidding the feeding of animals, although there have been instances that people have been fined because of it. The Regulation clearly states that they will punish anyone who feeds the animals. The fine for those who breach this regulation is 5,000 dinars - says for Telegraf, Slavica Keco, president of the Association "Vojvodina" stressing that this is an inhumane decree.

The patrols of municipal police have carried out 58 controls in the last little while with respect to the above provision.
