Mihajlovic: Direct flights to US possible in late 2015

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic stated on Tuesday that direct flights from Serbia to the U.S. could be introduced in late 2015 or the first quarter of 2016

The information as to when the flights will be introduced does not depend on the technical readiness of our airliner and airport because they are ready, the decision will depend on market conditions, Mihajlovic specified addressing reporters in the Serbian parliament.

Serbia will thus become the only country in this part of Europe with direct flights to the U.S. and passengers from other countries would then focus on our (Belgrade) airport which would be another benefit for Serbia from the economic standpoint, Mihajlovic said.

Flights from Belgrade to New York by end of year

The agreement on air traffic with the U.S. is being discussed in the parliament on Tuesday and its ratification constitutes the condition for airliner decisions to introduce direct flights from Serbia to the U.S.
