St. John the Baptist was born six months before Christ - on July 7th - so called Forerunner, because people prepare for the coming of the Savior.

In our nation there are many beliefs that are associated with St John's Day. Most have a magical goal in themselves. St. John and St. George, are mainly holidays that celebrate sorcerers and do not miss the chance to then, the nights of magic make their rites and spells.
Country sorcerers on this day pick various herbs. Harvested leaves of grass must be exactly 77 plus another, but only half of some other plant. It is used by sorcerers to treat an unknown disease, one that has no name. It is believed that the night before St. John's has an unusually strong power, particularly healing, which, with the first rays of the rising sun disappears.

But. not all power immediately disappears, it remains during the day, mainly til noon. For us, in the love of magic thinking it is best that spells be cast on the eve of Young Fridday.
Vlachs and Serbs in the Timok region, as soon as the sun comes down on St John, go to the meadow and slam their head into the dewy grass to ensure good health throughout the year.
- The first and the last bite of breakfast should be huffed on and preserved until the evening, and then together with a mirror and a little sliver put under your pillow in order for the face of the chosen one to appear - yet another of the beliefs on St. John's.
