DISGRACE! Citizens of Serbia appalled by the fact Milica Rakic's tombstone, victim of NATO bombing, gets torn down!
- I believe Milica's headstone was torn down for the NATO and EU representatives not to get offended for being reminded of NATO bombing, said Zarko Rakic, Milica's father
March 24 is the day when Serbia became victim of NATO's ruthless bombing. All Serbia still remembers the date that took so many lives, destroyed numerous homes and crushed one nation's spirit – irrevocably.

An event that particularly stands out when talked about the disgrace brought upon Serbia is tearing down of Milica Rakic's memorial tombstone, 15 years ago.
Tasmajdan park was home to this little girl's memorial stone yet it was torn down sometime before NATO and EU representatives had visited Serbia. Milica's father believes the tombstone was torn down for NATO and EU representatives not to get offended by being reminded of NATO bombing, 1999.
Whoever experienced the bombing remembers the horror Serbia was going through for months of violent bombing of both military and civil objects. Milica's memorial tombstone was built in honor of all the children who have lost their lives in that particular NATO activity.
The line on the stone read “We were just children”.
And even though you would expect the memorial stone to be kept and preserved out of respect, common decency and love for the innocent who lost their lives in NATO bombing, instead of a memorial stone at that same parcel now stands nothing but void. As if nothing was ever there.
The three year old Milica was taken from her parents April 17, 1999 while sitting on her potty. Rakic's family home still has visible damage on the home exterior, caused by projectiles shot at the time.
Today, Milica would be 19 years old.
