SERBIAN GOALKEEPER THAT SNATCHED ALBANIAN FLAG: Insults and threats don't get to me!
Cakovic, a goalkeeper that was provoked by an Albanian at the football game, said that he has never had any problems being Serbian in Albania
Vilson Cakovic, Serbian goalkeeper that plays for Albanian Apolonia from Fier, has become the center of football conversation in the whole region.
He managed to do that not because he was the best goalkeeper but for his reaction at the field during the match against Tirana. A fan ran onto the pitch, just befor the penalty for Tirana. He was waving a flag that said : ''No Albania without Kosovo and Cemerija (Northren Greece)''
- He ran 70 meters before he reached me. The police and the security couldn't be bothered to react. I didn't think before grabbing the flag, it was instinctively. I really didn't know what was on that flag at the time, I only recognized Albanian emblem. Somebody had to do that in order to continue the game - said Cakovic for ''Nase'' daily news.
Cakovic quickly snatched the flag from the man who was threatening him while the police were leading him off the field. The reaction from both teams wasn't any better than his threats. The coach soon substituted him.
- The players took the flag from me to put it away. Coach substituted me for my own good. I wouldn't probably be mentally able to guard the goal. I only found offensive that my club's fans booed me. They didn't understand - added the player from Gornji Milanovac.
Cakovic said that he never had any problems being Serbian in Albania, he added that he feels comfortable living there and reminds that there are two more Serbian players playing for the same club, Djordje Djordjevic and Marko Rajkovic.
Be that as it may, he receives threats on daily basis.
- Some of them insult me and threaten me over social networks, but others defend me. I don't really pay attention to all those comments. I trust that my fans will support me and I would like to thank them for the encouragement I have been receiving since the start of the season - said Vilson Cakovic
