The police have found a total of 300 irregular migrants in a forest belt near Serbia's northern border with Hungary.

820 police officers participated in the operation, including members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, the Gendarmerie, the Police Intervention Unit, the Police Brigade, the Border Police Administration, the Criminal Police Administration, the Technical Administration, the Anti-Terrorist Group and the Subotica Police Administration.

Out of the total number of migrants, 13 have been detained in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, while appropriate misdemeanor charges will be filed against 27.

During the operation, the police searched the area from the Hajdukovo settlement to Stara Karaula, Jasenovacka Suma and "Omar's Camp" and found nine automatic rifles, a hunting carbine with an optical sight, three pistols, as well as 841 pieces of ammunition of different calibers.

In cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees, the migrants were transported to reception centers where they were provided with adequate accommodation.

Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic said today in Subotica, during police operation to suppress irregular migration and break up smuggling groups, which is being carried out continuously, that the Ministry of Interior (MUP) will not allow anyone to jeopardize the safety of citizens and their property.

"We are determined to oppose irregular migration and not allow smuggling groups to threaten the safety of our citizens. Today's operation by the police is just another in a series that shows the firmness of that determination. The safety of our citizens comes first for us," Minister Gasic said.

The minister stressed that the state of Serbia respects all the rights of migrants in accordance with international conventions and has a humane approach towards them, but also that we demand that they respect the laws of our country and not abuse them.
