Tragedy at the temple of St. Sava: Two dead in the National Library (PHOTO FROM THE SCENE)
As Telegraf finds out, there has been an incident somewhat after 13:00, during the testing of the fire extinguishing system because the gas in the tank has expired. Two workers in charge of inspection were trapped in the warehouse and they suffocated.
Two people were found dead. Two men (aged 30 and 50), who were declared dead on sight, and there were no reanimation attempts - they told Telegraf from the ambulance.
As we learned, it was not possible to save them because there was a risk that others could suffocate due to carbon-dioxide which was leaking from the bottle.
Carbon dioxide leak from the fire extinguishing system occurred in Skerliceva 1 street, at the address where the National Library is located. The evacuation of all those present in the building was immediately carried out.
We received a call at 13:13 that some system was malfunctioning and that two people were suffocating. Two teams were sent for intervention - they told from the Ambulance to Telegraf.
According to the first information, there was an explosion of gas. The system for fire extinguishing in the National Library suddenly started leaking toxic fumes and it started suffocating people, that is why the firefighters and the ambulance were informed.
Firefighters are on the scene and they claim that there has been a tragedy during the inspection of the fire extinguishing system.
