The power plant will mostly supply Pristina with electricity, produced with state of the art technology
The so-called Kosovo government has signed an agreement with the US-based electricity maker with headquartered in New York, ContourGlobal, worth one billion euros ($ 1.18 billion) to build a 500-megawatt thermal power plant, AP reports.
The agreement was signed today with the company's chief manager, Joseph Brand.
The construction of the new plant will begin next year and it is planned to start working in 2023. It should replace the old 55-year-old power plant Kosovo A.
The power plant will mostly supply Pristina and surrounding area with electricity, produced with state of the art technology in the next 40 years.
Kosovo, which generates all the energy from coal, is carrying out regular power cuts due to outdated production and distribution network, the US agency adds.
