NATO SLAP TO HARADINAJ AND THACI IN THE MIDDLE OF KOSOVO: What happened behind the scenes of the Pristina meeting (PHOTO)
Although representatives of provisional institutions in Pristina have great hopes for NATO assistance in forming the so-called "The Kosovo Army", this idea is far from being realized thanks to the Alliance member countries, who did not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of the southern Serbian province. This was supported by events at a meeting in Pristina on Friday, during the visit of NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.
Ramush Haradinaj refused a meeting on Friday and then participated in a joint conference with senior NATO officials at the KFOR headquarters in Pristina. This happened after the Kosovo Prime Minister did not accept the conditions imposed by the Spanish ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
On the same day when Spain was confronted with the declaration of independence of Catalonia, the representative of Spain, more precisely, the Spanish ambassador to NATO ignored the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo in the KFOR base in Dragodan, Pristina. He has set the conditions regarding how the Kosovo institutions will be presented at a meeting with NATO ambassadors.
The Spanish ambassador has requested from the representatives of the Kosovo not to represent the functions they perform in the Kosovo state. He asked Ramush Haradinaj not to be prime minister. In addition, he asked the Minister and Deputy Minister of the Kosovo Security Force not to use titles and to appear without a uniform, because Spain does not recognize the independence of Kosovo and therefore these persons do not have official status for them.
Express sources stated that Haradinaj reacted to this situation and that he did not accept to attend the meeting, not even after the negotiations with the participants of the delegation.
He also canceled a meeting with a delegation led by NATO Deputy Secretary-General Rose Gottemoeller and a press conference.
Gottemoeller met with Hashim Thaci on Friday, while only two ambassadors - American and British - came to a meeting with Thaci and Haradinaj in the building of Kosovo institutions.
The NATO delegation was headed by the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Rose Gottemoeller. She spoke to the Kosovo officials using only their personal names, without mentioning the positions, taking care that nothing prejudiced Kosovo's statehood.
This position of NATO is a consequence of not-recognizing Kosovo by four member states, out of a total of 29 countries in the military alliance.
So, the second person of NATO didn't address Thaci using his title, but only with Mr. Thaci.
