Secrets of the mountain Kokino: Surrounding villages believe its cursed, and it was recognized by NASA and it is connected with Stonehenge (PHOTO) (VIDEO)
Megalithic observatory Kokino near Kumanovo, on the north east of Macedonia, which was declared by NASA as one of the four oldest megalithic observatories in the world, it was researched to detail till now, but it still hides one secret.
Locals of the nearby villages believe that Kokino is a cursed mountain and they claim that everybody who stay to long and who damage the site will be punished.
Ten years ago, the residents at the bottom of the right side of Kokino felt the power, but also the anger of the mountain fifty years ago. It is still retold in the people, that rocks the size of the fist fell down on the roofs of the houses and it lasted for few days. Rocks were falling from the sky, in waves, and the owners of homes which were damaged by rocks, thought that some of the local thugs is messing around, so they reported the case to the local Yugoslav police.
The report of the locals was taken seriously, so the police had set up an ambush in the hope that they would find and punish the perpetrators. However, all the efforts of the police and the villagers have failed.
The offender was never found, and the stones still continued to fall on the houses. Owners of those few houses were no longer able to withstand the stress and they picked up and moved away. Those few abandoned and dilapidated houses are located on the right side of the hill Kokino today, reminding visitors that they are climbing the mountain that commands respect.
Megalithic observatory was discovered on in in 2001, which is fourth on the list of the oldest by NASA. Only three world known observatories older than Kokino in the world. Abu Simbel in Egypt, Stonehenge in Britain and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Megalithic observatory was named Kokino after Kokino hill in municipality Staro Nagoricanje, 35 kilometers north east from Kumanovo. It is on 1013 meters of altitude and it covers 5.000 square meters. It was built around 1.800 BC, its around 3.800 years old and its the only one in Europe. It was discovered by archaeologist Jovica Stankovski, and astrophysicist Djore Cenev confirmed that it is an old observatory, after numerous archaeological analysis and measurements.
Stanovski saw something more then rocks worn by erosion on the rocky hill on the way to Kumanovo. And when he decided to confirm his doubts in 2001, he came to Tatic stone, and it was clear that the nature could not carve those stones and blocks. He confirmed that after the first hit of hack at the stone base. And after the dug stones, there was a piece of marble, as a reliable sign that people used to be here.
A history of a significant archaeological discovery was behind it, which would not have a strong affect if archaeologist Stanovski didn't ask a few questions to himself. Who would want to live on a rocky cliff which could be remains of some old residence? He continued digging and he brought numerous objects to Macedonian archaeology.
The story about unusual finding on Tatic stone reached physicist and astronomer Djore Canev from Skopje. Interested by Stankovki discovery, knowledgeable, in September 2002, Cenev is leaving to Tatic stone and re remains stunned with what he saw. Presupposition of the archaeologist Stankovski that the site is remains of the observatory, made it more than logical. Using science, Canev carefully determined coordinates that confirmed that Totic stone was an ancient observatory.
- I've put my self in a role of an ancient astronomer and i decided to perform measurements to confirm my thought - remembers Cenev.
He would visit the site every day until he managed to determine the points of observing the celestial bodies, especially the movement of the sun and moon.
- When i later confirmed the results with those from 1963 by physicist Sir Norman Lokier and astronomer Gerald Hawkins, exploring Stonehenge, I was stunned. Data on Tatic Rock measurements were identical to those of Stonehenge. Sun's declination is was exactly 23.9 degrees. Precisely those measurements have confirmed that this is a megalithic Observatory, told us Cenev.
Locality has three positions for the observation of celestial bodies, two of which are for sitting and one standing. Stone chairs are especially preserved from these positions, and it it easy to determine the beginning of the seasons based on the position of the sunset and sunrise of the Sun and the Moon.
Canev said that people from bronze age from the observatory Kokino observed the movement of Sun and Moon using special stone markers and they made calendars which they used to organize their life.
- That means they had organized social community and it says much about the civilization - explains Cenev and adds that Kokino is not just ancient observatory but a great holy land where people did their rituals marking the beginning of the world and the mythical joining of earth and the sky.
- Our ancestors believed that the ritual of science known as "holy matrimony" between the heavenly deities and the land provides fertility and renewal of nature. The ritual is performed by the high priest and the tribe sat on a stone throne at the top of the hill Kokino. The ritual would begin when he was making his way between the cut stone shone on the first morning sun. Then began a series of sacrifice - horses, bulls, rams, goats, and perhaps people. Shed blood would fertilize the earth, promising abundance in the coming season, a union between heaven and earth, between gods and men would be obvious - explains archaeologist Jovica Stankovski.
For centuries and millennia, this area and stone throne in the middle of megalithic observatory was lit precisely at the same time and the same place. So it remains to this day.
