The most mysterious case of Yugoslav air force happened almost 40 years ago, and the most of the public is still not familiar with the details about the night flight Zagreb - Belgrade - Titograd, today's Podgorica. What makes the flight of Croatian airlines "Pan adria" from 16.08.1977. different from all others is the mysterious escort shaped like unidentified, fiery, red light that forced the reaction of the military top, the take down of "mig 21" and death of the pilot

Testimonies about the mysterious UFO gave a dozen witnesses, including radar, air traffic controllers, civil and military pilots ...

Research journalist Djulijano Marinkovic found out about this case 20 years ago, and he published his research recently. How important was the event, is best pictured by the fact that it could postpone his tour in China, North Korea and Russia of the life time president of the Socialist Federate republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito.

Sayings about the plane with 50 or so passengers, followed by a fiery ball on its left side, which stands near Surcin airport and it could be seen with the most modern instruments on the flight control; then the intervention of the four "migs", of which 2 were brought down together with one pilot; signing the secrecy contract; completely overshadows even the best science fiction movies. 

- It is about the most fascinating case i had the opportunity to come across on our areas. The story about the incident in the 70', when one civilian plane on its flight was followed by unusual light and the whole interaction is going on. I heard about it in 1996, and it was confirmed by professor and the chief of technology in "Pan Adria" at the time Borivoje Galovic, who talked on the university about future pilots, pilot Dobrisav Dzeba, copilot Milenko Bajtolic, mechanic of the flight Stanko Naletic... It has the elements of the first rate and world like case, which about western researches almost don't even know about, and the elements are radar and optic detection from the ground and the sky, from the military network VOJ, areal control of Belgrade, but also for military intervention, bringing "migs" in the air and the command to take down the unidentified flying object - explained Marinkovic.

What happened that night on the sky, find out from the main actors of this incredible story:

- We took off normally, with 50 passengers, from Zagreb to Belgrade, it was a normal, comfortable, summer night and we got the permission from the Belgrade flight control to continue our flight towards Surcin. Somewhere around Sremska Mitrovica we started diving. There we noticed one light, red, very intense, from our left side. It was moving next to us, almost like flying. It was so bright you could not look at it, to discover if there was something in it or around it. It was following us and it adjusted it heights and speed with us. When we got down to 300 meters - the about time to receive the landing clearance - the object stopped and his speed started decreasing, and we landed. Then we saw a faint reflection, it was like a fog or some clouts, we saw that red light standing there , on the place where it stopped when we landed. Great company awaited us in the control room, both civilian and military. They mostly said to keep it for ourselves what we just saw and not to speak about it further, they are researching whats going on, military alertness has been anounced, and military "migs" are already ready to take off. We thought it would be the best if we continued our way, because we thought someone is protecting us.

Later i found out they were preparing for Tito's arrival, who should travel in 9 AM from Batajnica to visit Russia, China, North Korea... After consultation, we came to a decision to continue the flight. Two minutes later, that something moved and as we were going toward Valjevo, it went parallel with us. They told us from the control to turn left, and it the moment we were focused on the red object, when we stabilized in that direction, the object increased speed from total stillness, to seven times the speed of sound (around 9.000 kilometers per hour). Later calculations determined that the object had 150 meters. The shift manager started  to panic and yelled "turn, turn". The object stopped and started going back to Batajnica, we were no longer interesting. In our return, we were awaited by military and civilian officials and under threat regarding my safety, they told me never to talk about it. I took them really, really seriously and until few years ago i didn't even think about speaking about that. I buried it , thinking that story is over with. Later we found out that at least one pilot died, generals were all furious how they let it slip away, and i was wondering, what would have happened if we, in Valjevo, continued moving forward. You can not forget such a thing! Whatever it may be, it remained in us like a unfinished part from professional life.

- The light was, no, blue, red, like a fiery light, no. It radiated the colors, like elliptic, irregular ball. It wasn't a pure circle. It followed us from Mitrovica up till Belgrade, till we landed. After landing we went out, looked up and saw that ball. In the mean time, the crew went to the flight control to see what was out there, but it was shrouded in secrecy. I found out that they saw it on radar like we saw it with out eyes, and that the military is on standby... When we took off for Titograd, controller asked us to turn to the left towards that object. It changed speed, from standing still to great speed. Then he told us: "Turn back to Valjevo, it is facing you". Stuareses, all the passengers were in panic... We heard that two "migs" out of  four were shot down. Military gave no information.

- We had the super modern technology, the most advanced flight control, so we had the opportunity to completely follow the entire event. I sat down in my car, and we went to the area control with the assistant and that object could be clearly seen. Next to our primary, we had secondary radar. One signal was processed with computer and with the data we got speed, heights and the direction. We saw that UFO went from left to the right side, and all switched so they could watch. When the plane was half way, that object set itself with great speed between Batajnica and Surcin. This is where we lost it, because radars have the program that erases the permanent goal in the case if is motionless. We had the connection with the guiding officer, but we saw it in the clouds with our naked eye. The military made its commission, it was explained that it is a meteorological balloon. I don't know if any balloon can follow a plane for 500-600 kilometers.

- We noticed it on the radar. We followed the object, it was flying very fast, it came near our radar station and the speed greatly reduced. Guard soldiers called us outside to see something strange. We came out and saw three flying objects lowered on the ground, which were shining with intense light, like the sun. The landing spot was few meters north-west from our station. For the first time we saw something like that i our lives, the excitement lasted for about 15 minutes. Fighter planes were airborne and they moved toward those objects, and we were guiding them . Objects rose when the planes approached and they flew toward Osijek. Before that pilots reported malfunctions on migs and disruptions. They started pursuing, but the speed of the UFO was unattainable by any known aircraft in use. Above Osijek, from the horizontal speed they went to vertical, the speed of 10 Mach per second. We found out that another pair of migs went to intercept and one of the pilots died. Our chase was unsuccessful because of the UFO speed, sudden movement change with the same speed and the technology we encountered. We sealed the material and signed the protocol of secrecy.

- I served the military service as a gunner. I saw when from one light, two smaller ones came out, they did a spiral flight before they moved away in different directions. Third light moved towards west, back to Zagreb. We followed the light for around 40 minutes, the eight of us with all Tito situation. Soldiers were afraid, they bolted their guns, one could not speak, he thought war was breaking out. The alert was sounded on the area of Belgrade military area, and one pilot did not want to fly, he said that its over for him and other colleague is going in action instead of him. Pilots went, they circled the UFO who was on Surcin, around 300 meters high, the larger UFO went to Hungary, and i saw with the brink of an eye a smaller one going to the south of the country. The UFO which was bigger was rising, went very slowly. In the morning around 6 AM they told me that the situation is tight, all migs are in the air and three were taken down when the Yugoslav aviation was ordered to warn the UFO with projectiles to move away from our territory. They fought back at Hungarian border and one pilot died. We went to the funeral in Belgrade but they told us we can not e there because the honors have been organized on the higher level. Later, six soldiers were called to go to wheat fields in Vojvodina because the remains of the migs were found. They found one which did not have a back end, and the wings were heavily damaged. Even the high officer ranks were forbidden to know about the event.
