More than 200 children of migrants came to Serbia WITHOUT PARENTS!
Serbia has registered 230 unaccompanied migrant minors, said State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Nenad Ivanisevic.
- When we talk about the Balkan Route we are talking about the past year and about 200 to 230 children who we have managed to keep records, which are very specific - Ivanisevic told reporters after the opening of the conference "Support of unaccompanied minor migrants in Serbia."
He says it's not about the total number of children, but the children who have been deprived of parental care, or unaccompanied by someone who is considered an adult.
Stating that approximately that there are 230 cases registered, he pointed out that these cases are solved in different ways, primarily in cooperation with UN agencies and NGOs.
According to him, the problems have been solved partly through the asylum procedure, and partly with working and connecting with families who may have previously gone to Western Europe.
- Serbia is the first country to sent to all providers of social services a binding instructions at the end of March last year, where we clearly define how and what needs to be done in any case when a minor child - said Ivanisevic.
As he said, it is important to emphasize that each of these children was assigned to a guardian before the competent Center for Social Work, and that no child was left alone, but that the institutions of the system took care of them.
Asked whether Serbia has sufficient capacity and institutions to deal with this problem seriously election, Ivanisevic pointed out that Serbia, thanks to the Government of Switzerland will be able to build up this capacity.
- The plan envisages upgrading and building new capacities at three points in Serbia - Subotica, Belgrade in the Home 'Vasa Stajic' and the Institute in Nis. Those are the points for quickest and best way, all taking into account the interests of the child, we can provide protection in the best way - Ivanisevic said, adding that he planned to raise the capacity of about 50 seats.
Stating that the movement of unaccompanied migrant minors is not just a characteristic of this crisis, he pointed out that our country is in the transitional route that we have a lot of movement of minors within the countries of the region and not only affected by the war.
Jovana Mihajlovic from the Swiss Office for Cooperation with Serbia, the Embassy of Switzerland said that the office of the migration partnership agreement signed between Switzerland and Serbia, develops projects in the field of migration.
- In the past four years Switzerland has opted for these projects 4.3 million Swiss francs. The project related to unaccompanied minors in the value of 600,000 Swiss francs for 3.5 years, and the ministry is a direct partner and contractor in cooperation with NGOs and international organizations - explained Mihajlovic.
