- In 2014 the total turnover of alcoholic drinks in Serbia was 47 million liters. 5-6 million were home-made brandy, and unofficially, 10 times more is sold illegally - said Predrag Amidzic, president of the Group of Importers and distributors of alcoholic drinks during the meeting where "gray zone" was one of the subjects.

The sell of illegal alcohol is blooming in restaurants, cafes, taverns, and markets, and apart from home-made brandy, one can buy all sorts of brandy under the counter, mostly whiskey, brandy, and liqueur- reports "Kurir" news agency.

- Out of 1.260 controls in the liqueur stores, 2% did not have the proof about the origin of the merchandise. In the last 3 years, inspection workers took out 160.000 liters of contraband alcohol. The biggest problem is out of regular shops, but they are controlled by the IRS, but they do not have enough inspectors - said the Manager of the Oversee Department in the Ministry of commerce, Goran Macura.

In 223 objects, Tax Office took 107.000 liters of contraband alcohol in 2015.

- In houses and other objects, the inspectors took out 951, 72 liters of alcohol, and 440 liters of pure ethyl-alcohol. Moreover, they took out 650 liters of contraband wine - stated Ljubisa Peric from the Tax Office.

Marko Cirkovic from the Customs office stated that smuggling should be fiercely punished.

- Everyone has the right to take the 100 Euros merchandise for their own needs. There is no law that can stop someone from going over the border 100 times and bring the quantity stated in the law - pointed out Cirkovic.
