- The number is not huge, it is limited, we are not talking about thousands of people - said he to the Tanjug news agency.
He stated that the migrants who stayed in Serbia need the information about the legal ways to solve their status, as well as legal counseling.
One of the solutions is that they get the refugee status in Serbia, and then, to either voluntarily go back to their countries, or to join the program of connecting back the families who had got separated during the migration.
Schoeder stated that this process will last long, and added that UNHCR will continue helping Serbia treat he refugees humanely and in accordance with the international laws and obligations.
- UNHCR will help Serbia do the monitoring from case to case - said he.
According to Schoeder, after this route being closed, more and more migrants will look for illegal transportation ways, the help of the smugglers, and the criminals:
- Moreover, we have many families whose members got separated during the migration. They are now in different states and they must join one another.
