QUEEN ELIZABETH GOT A GIFT FROM THE PRISON IN SERBIA: Convicts from the Niš prison sent their best wishes!

45 prisoners who are in Correctional facility in the city of Niš were given diplomas today that they successfully finished their training which should help them find a job when they are released.

Thanks to the cooperation of Ministry of Justice, HELP organization, People's University, and the Technical school from the city of Bor, the convicts were trained to become bakers, welders, and agriculturists.

Some of them finished the training on CNC machine, with which they can make objects from glass, wood, and plastics.

One of the works, made by Nenad Ilić, was given to the British ambassador as a gift to the Queen Elizabeth for her birthday.

- I have been working here for the past 2 years and I am really interested in 3D modelling so I am grateful for this chance. Time passes when one works, freedom is closer... I found myself in this job, and I hope that I can find a job when I get out - said Ilić when he got the certificate.

Warden of the Penitentiary, Aleksandar Grbović stated that the first group from 192 inmates has been awarded certificates.

- Department of Justice donated 9000 Euro for this program, HELP gave us 18.000 Euro, and we paid half of the expenses for the CNC machine which costs 40.000 Euro. It is very important to train the convicts for a job or a craft so that they could find a job and stop them from going back to being criminals. 20 of them are exquisite welders, and our people are good in other branches. We have 13 commercial contracts, we made furniture for the Court and the Clinical center, and due to agricultural products we earned more money. After all the expenses and salaries are given, what remains is used to enhance the life conditions in the prison - explained Grbović.

Sanja Đokić from HELP organization said that she was pleasantly surprised by their behavior.

- I did not have any prejudices, they were terrific students. There were no problems with them. We spent 2 months working together and they proved the trust - said Đokić.
